Senior Book Clubs

Let the Literary Freedom Project lead an enriching experience tailored especially for our seniors! Our weekly onsite book clubs are designed to provide enjoyable and engaging literary adventures for individuals who appreciate the magic of a good book. We’ll take great care in selecting a diverse range of books that cater to various tastes and preferences. Each book we choose promises to deliver an immersive and enjoyable experience, ensuring that there's something for everyone.

Our weekly book club discussions are thoughtfully organized, spanning five weeks for each book. A trained facilitator guides these conversations, creating a comfortable and stimulating environment for all participants. Whether participants are avid readers or just looking to rediscover the joy of reading, seniors will find our book clubs to be the perfect setting to explore new stories and perspectives.

Launched in 2014 as a way to connect our Bronx neighbors to the vibrant ideas and histories found in books, our discussions reconnect personal narratives to such classics as Down These Mean Streets by Piri Thomas, The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, and When I Was Puerto Rican by Esmeralda Santiago. Discussions have also focused on newer works by Angie Cruz, Colson Whitehead, Dahlma Llanos-Figueroa, and Tarana Burke.

Our book clubs provide an exceptional opportunity to connect seniors with a supportive community that can significantly benefit seniors by enhancing memory, boosting cognitive abilities, delaying the onset of dementia, and reducing stress.
